The annual Draft Horse Show of the Owingsville Horse Show was held
on Saturday, July 8th,2017 at the Owingsville Lions Club Fairgrounds. The event was hosted by the Eastern Kentucky Draft Horse and Mule Association.
The judge for the show was Marty Bilderback DVM, Associate Professor of Equine Management at Asbury University. The weather for the event was warm and
humid, but not as oppressive as some prior years. Unfortunately, the number of draft horse owners is on the decline and those that remain are aging. For
this reason, the number of participants in events like this is on the decline. Many of the classes only had 1 entry or were cancelled due to no entries.
This did make it much easier on the judge as he knew that he got those classes correct. The Farm Wagon class had a special trophy in memory of Mark Orme that
was donated by Smokey Bare, owner of Su Say Farm of Lexington, Ky. Smokey was on hand to give the trophy to the winners of the class, Charles and Clint Orme,
Mark's father and son. The photos that I took at the show can be accessed by clicking the link below.
